Old frame – new purpose

before and after frame diy chalkboard paint distressed

[En]I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I love a quick and easy DIY project. It is so rewarding to have something painted and ready to use after a couple of hours of work!

[En]About an year ago when I was still attending the local flea market (I'm currently on a break from that - too many items bought and no more available space 😀 ) I bought a small golden frame, about the size of an A4.

[En]I din't know what to do with it so it just sat there hidden in a box. When we've cleaned the future-to-be nursery, I've found it and I suddenly thought of the DIY ideas I've seen on Pinterest involving chalkboard paint.

[En]First of all, I've taped the glass with painter's tape so I won't smudge it with paint.

[En]Then I've mixed some white and blue chalk paint until I've obtained the shade I was looking for and started to paint. It literally took about 5 minutes to paint it. Seriously, only 5 minutes!

[Ro]Apoi am amestecat vopsea chalk paint alba si albastra pana am obtinut nuanta pe care o doream si am vopsit rama. Mi-a luat cam 5 minute sa o vopsesc. Serios, doar 5 minute!

[En]After the paint dried (approximately 20 minutes) I've sand it here and there to reveal some of the gold color underneath.

[En]I wanted to soften the blue paint and tried for the first time the dry brushing technique, using white paint. I've applied the white paint over and over again until I was satisfied with the result. Some areas turned more whiter than others, which was the look I was going for.

[En]The next step was to apply the top coat over the paint. I went for a matte one.

[En]After the topcoat has dried, I removed the painter's tape from the glass and applied 2 coats of chalkboard paint on it with a brush and smoothed with a sponge.

[En]After the chalkboard paint dried, I've written the name of the baby with liquid chalk on it. We've use the frame for the maternity photo session and now it is a decorative object in the nursery. It was an easy project, wasn't it?
